Each work in the series You and Me has the same source image—how current circulates around two magnetic poles—but the focus of each work is different. By shifting the thread colors through the grayscale, areas of the drawing are pulled forward while others disappear: in one work the energy between the two poles is a blaze of white; in another it collapses into a black hole. Together they tell a story of the attraction and repulsion, immersion and escape, that are negotiated as part of a relationship.
This relationship has been summed up in many a rock song (hence the subtitle for each work) and I certainly am playing off the clichés of romantic love. But the personal motivation behind the work is the relationship between mother and child and the roller coaster ride of parenthood.
