In my series on bird migration I examine an alternate way of mapping: political and familiar boundaries are removed so all that remains are paths of flight. The installation includes two sculptures placed above a floor drawing. Each circle on the floor represents a convergence point for large numbers of bird species on their global migration. Night Sky/ Bird Migration Patterns of North America combines the color of the night sky with the stitch pattern of bird migration throughout North America. Each line ends in an arrow representing one species’ migration. The stitch lines in Glacial Blue/ Bird Migration Patterns of the Arctic represent both the latitude and longitude lines at the North Pole and the bird migration patterns above this landless territory.
