Black and White (White)
2004, hand-stitched cotton, 60" x 80" x 17"

The counterpart to the black sculpture from Black and White, the white sculpture (above) depicts an aerial view of the energy pattern of a nuclear explosion. The symmetrical, mandala-like pattern is abstracted from its original reference. Only when the two sculptures are seen side by side are the overlaps apparent-the column shaft and the mushroom cloud emerge from the chaos of the white sculpture's stitching, and what seemed so different at first glance is shown to be the same, dependent on one's point of view.
